Mommy Makeover
In the Buffalo, NY, area women often visit WNY Plastic Surgery in search of a solution for many of the unwanted cosmetic changes that come with pregnancy and childbirth. Breast enhancement and body contouring can help, and the innovative mommy makeover allows patients to improve these areas in a single surgery. This approach reduces overall recuperation time and allows patients to get back to their busy lives sooner–looking and feeling their personal best.
Is Mommy Makeover for You?
Mommy makeover is a custom procedure that is tailored to your unique needs and concerns. A typical mommy makeover includes some form of breast enhancement coupled with body contouring. During your initial consultation, Dr. Andrew Giacobbe considers the following factors when evaluating your candidacy:
- Your overall health, including any past surgeries or procedures
- Your expectations for the surgery
- Your ability to properly care for yourself during recuperation
- Your lifestyle
Dr. Giacobbe suggests that prospective mommy makeover patients undergo the procedure after they’ve finished having children, as pregnancy after surgery can alter results.

Your consultation and pre-op appointments are important opportunities to plan your surgery with Dr. Giacobbe. Although mommy makeover is a custom procedure, it most often includes some form of breast enhancement and body contouring. When performed together, these options can create a comprehensive result that reshapes your body and helps you rediscover your pre-baby confidence.
Mommy Makeover Options
- Breast augmentation is a popular option, as it restores volume to breasts that may have diminished as the result of breastfeeding. It’s frequently combined with breast lift, but not always.
- Breast reduction lightens and lifts heavy, oversized breasts to bring them into proportion with the rest of the body.
- Tummy tuck is especially popular with women who have had children, as it effectively removes excess skin and a “pooch” from the abdomen.
- Selective liposuction deftly removes pockets of localized fat for smooth, cohesive results.
Your Surgery
Prior to your surgery day, Dr. Giacobbe discusses your surgical process at length with you. In our Buffalo practice, mommy makeover is an outpatient procedure, and you can expect to return home with a trusted individual the same day.
If you undergo breast augmentation as part of your mommy makeover, you and Dr. Giacobbe work together to choose the perfect set of implants. During surgery, he places these implants in a pocket made either beneath or atop the chest muscle.
Patients who undergo tummy tuck as part of their mommy makeover surgery will have surgical drains in place after surgery. These drains prevent fluid from accumulating and causing complications. Typically, these drains are removed after about 2 weeks.

During the first several days after your surgery, you should refrain from engaging in any activities besides walking around the house. If you’ve had a tummy tuck, you may find that walking upright is difficult or uncomfortable. This is normal, and should become easier as the days pass. Avoid driving for at least 3 weeks, and any strenuous activities, including housekeeping, for at least 6 weeks. Once you have reached these milestones, ease slowly back into these activities per Dr. Giacobbe’s advice.
After your surgery, drain care is especially important. The medical staff will show you how to properly empty, monitor, and maintain your drains, which are typically removed within the first one to two weeks.
Tummy tuck and liposuction require that you wear a compression garment full-time for several weeks. You’ll need to wear a surgical bra for a couple of days before transitioning to a soft-cup sports bra until the 6-week mark. You may wear underwire bras after 6 weeks.
We’ll schedule your first post-op visit for 1 to 2 days after surgery. You can anticipate some swelling and bruising for several days initially. By carefully following your postoperative instructions and maintaining a steady weight, you can potentially enjoy your results for many years.
