Eyelid Surgery
Dr. Giacobbe commonly performs eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) at his practice outside Buffalo, NY, to restore a youthful look around the eyes. The eyelids and skin around the eyes are some of the first places on our faces to show signs of aging. People often complain about prematurely drooping eyelids, puffy bags under the eyes, and wrinkles. Eyelid surgery is relatively straightforward and very effective, prompting more and more men and women each year to undergo this procedure.
Is Eyelid Surgery Right for You?
Eyelid surgery, also known as blepharoplasty, involves the removal of excess skin, muscle, and fat in the upper and lower eyelids. It can drastically improve the appearance of the area around the eyes. It can also be used for functional reasons if the droopiness of your eyelids impairs your vision. You may be a good candidate for this procedure if:
- You have excess skin that causes drooping or “hooding” in the upper eyelids
- You have sagginess and wrinkles on the lower eyelid
- You have significant bags under the eyes
- You are in generally good physical and mental health
- You have realistic expectations for surgery
What Happens During Eyelid Surgery Consultation?
Upper and lower eyelid surgery are two different options that involve the removal of excess tissue and fat to help patients look rejuvenated. During the consultation, Dr. Giacobbe will do an examination to determine a surgical plan that will give you optimal results. He will consider both your anatomy and desired outcome while planning your eyelid surgery. At our Williamsville, NY, practice, we believe in open communication with our patients, so we welcome any questions or concerns you may have along the way.
Eyelid surgery can enhance the area around the eyes in a variety of ways, all within one procedure. Dr. Giacobbe uses advanced techniques to lift drooping upper eyelids and restore the natural creases. Eyelid surgery can also reduce puffy lower eye bags and even improve peripheral vision. Dr. Giacobbe works to maintain the natural shape of the eye. He doesn’t want to change your overall appearance. Rather, he wants to enhance your natural features.
How Is Eyelid Surgery Performed?
Dr. Giacobbe will help you decide which eyelid surgery will be best for your specific needs.
Upper Eyelid Surgery: Patients choose upper eyelid surgery to correct the appearance of droopy or puffy upper eyelids. Dr. Giacobbe will first make an incision in the natural creases of the upper eyelid. He will then remove the excess skin, creating a better-defined eyelid.
Lower Eyelid Surgery: Patients opt for surgery on the lower lids to address fat deposits under the eyes. Dr. Giacobbe will begin by making an incision under the lower lashes. Then he will remove the fat deposits and correct any sagging, so patients are left with refreshed, young-looking skin under the eyes.

Dr. Giacobbe View Before & After PHotosWhat Is Eyelid Surgery Recovery Like?
Some patients experience swelling and bruising after surgery, but most of our patients report little discomfort. We recommend no strenuous activity for 6 weeks, but you should start walking around within the first 24 hours to promote good blood flow.
You will need to ice continually until the first post-op visit 5 to 6 days after surgery. This should help with the swelling. You may shower the day after surgery and you can let the water run over your face and pat dry. It is important to take it easy after surgery. Do not push yourself too hard because it can have an adverse effect on your healing.
Once the swelling and bruising subside, this procedure can reverse the effects of aging by giving patients a smoother, refreshed look. Eyelid surgery can make your eyes look more open and alert by lifting and smoothing the surrounding skin. This subtle adjustment can have a significant impact on the way you look and feel.
How Much Does Eyelid Surgery Cost?
The cost of eyelid surgery depends on several factors, including whether the procedure involves the upper or lower eyelids or both. Other factors that influence the cost of eyelid surgery are the surgeon’s experience and training, where the practice is located, and the extent of the surgery needed to produce the desired results. Even though blepharoplasty is a fairly straightforward procedure, you should still avoid shopping for the least expensive practice for any elective surgery.
